Akarui (アカルイ), also known The Black Demon King Akarui (ブラック魔王アカルイ, Burakku Maō Akarui), is the protagonist of Code Geass: Kill the Rebellion.

He is the Akame ga Kill! world's parallel version of Lelouch vi Britannia, and the elder brother of Akame and Kurome. In contrast to his siblings, who were sold off by his parents, he was kept, but was later made into an orphan after a tragic encounter with a group of bandits. Shortly after escaping, he came into the care of a traveling band of mercenaries, where he would learn the art of swordplay. In later years, he would become a traveling swordsman.

Shortly after Lelouch's consciousness is transferred into him by D, Akarui travels to the Capital, intending to bring an end to the corrupt monarchy of the Empire. He later joins Night Raid alongside Tatsumi, and reunites with his long-lost sister.

Appearance Edit

Akarui bears a great physical resemblance to Lelouch, except his hair is messier, and has red eyes, like his sisters. He also has a much more well-toned body and athletic form than his counterpart, and wears a maroon sleeveless shirt underneath a black jacket with silver trims. He also wears black denim jeans with thick black boots with red soles, and dark red straps, along with two belts that cross over one another to form an "x" shaped pattern. His Teigu, Bahamut, is found strapped to one of the belts at the back of his hip, resting inside a dark sheathe.

While acting as Zero, Akarui wears a tight dark purple suit with golden stripes and long, wrapped sleeves. The outfit combines Victorian fashion with that of a sleek bodysuit; worn over it is a black and gold cloak with crimson spandex lining the inside and an enormous black cape encircling the head. Its immediately recognizable feature is a spiky black and indigo mask with a long variation of the Geass Sigil stretched over its bottom, completely hiding the wearer's face; the mask appears opaque from the outside but is actually transparent from the inside.

Character Outline Edit

Being the counterpart to Lelouch, Akarui is identical to him in almost every possible way. He is a highly intelligent individual who is also calm, sophisticated, but can be slightly arrogant. He usually conducts himself as a sociable, likeable, and often easygoing person. In reality, this is a ruse to hide his true nature from others. It is only when he is with Night Raid that he can express his true self; his charisma and beliefs in justice gain him the trust and respect of many soldiers and leaders.

He is known for having a very stoic personality. He enjoys seeking out challenges, often playing chess against nobility. In general, Akarui takes most day-to-day affairs with open disinterest, often not even noticing the affection of others. He has a strong dislike for nobles, viewing them as tepid and "overprivileged parasites."

In battle, Akarui is very cold and tactical. He is willing to sacrifice civilians and soldiers alike, if that is what it takes to achieve the objective. As he possesses the consciousness of Lelouch vi Britannia, he naturally has his memories, and therefore, he remembers the events of Narita, which causes him to have second thoughts, but he accepted the fact that there will always be consequences to each action.

Despite his cold, calculating demeanor, and ruthlessness in battle, he can be a rather compassionate person to his friends and loved ones. To Akame and Kurome, he is a loving brother, in spite of their time apart, and to Tatsumi, a loyal friend. Akarui, at first glance, seems to have relatively little concern for the well-being of his comrades, but in reality, he does care about them, seeing them as valuable allies.

Zero Edit

Zero - "Rebellion" itself

As Zero, the leader of the sub-organization within the Revolutionary Army, the Black Knights, his true nature is expressed. His charisma and beliefs in justice gain him the trust and respect of many soldiers and leaders. As the identity of Zero is meant for the purpose of implanting a seed into the hearts of people, Akarui describes Zero as "rebellion" itself, referring to the masked identity's previous role in the Code Geass world as a symbol of Rebellion. A true tactical genius and swordmaster, Zero is considered to be the greatest threat the Empire has even seen, as he has also been recognized to be a potential threat by even the Great General Budo, the strongest warrior within the Empire. While assuming this role, Akarui voices his displeasure and hatred towards the Empire, recruiting many soldiers and civilians who share similar thoughts to stand beside him in his quest to destroy the Empire. Najenda describes the identity of Zero as the very symbol of revolution as the Black Knights become a more pronounced military force.

History Edit

Equipment and Skills Edit

Physical Abilities Edit

Akarui, having been trained by mercenaries at a young age, is naturally adept at the art of swordplay. While nowhere near on par with his younger sisters, he is still capable in his own right, and his unique fighting style allows him to fight against strong opponents, such as Stylish and Bols. In addition to his athletic physical strengths, he is also tactically powerful as well, able to force opponents into situations where they cannot fight properly, or can overpower them in a matter of seconds. He is a sound tactician and strategies, able to form strategies that make him highly valued to the Revolutionary Army. He is also proven to be a capable and powerful fighter with quick reflexes, able to dodge and counter-attack with ease.

Teigu Edit

The Dragon God-King's Throne, Bahamut

He carries the Teigu, Bahamut, a medieval, ornate black sword that was forged from the corpse of the One True Dragon God-King Bahamut. While inactive, it is virtually indestructible, able to defend against even the strongest attacks. It has also demonstrated to tap into one of it's innate abilities, Hellfire Blaze, where it can release a blast of dark flames. When invoked, the user is donned in giant black armor with violet highlights and a tattered purple cape, and wields a large obsidian claymore with dark blue circuits running over it. While in this form, Akarui is highly resistant to virtually any attack, even to attacks dealt by Budo and Esdeath. However, the armor is not indestructible, and can suffer from high outputs of damage. It's Trump Card, the Dragon King's Abdication, is said to have the power to raze the Empire to the ground, but only the first Emperor has ever successfully managed to activate it.

Trivia Edit

  • Akarui is known to have had some sort of past affiliation with Esdeath, as she immediately recognized him after he appeared in the competition hosted by the Jaegers to find potential new recruits. However, Akarui has vague memories of her, and cannot recall when the two met.
  • Similarly to Akame's namesake in Japanese, Akarui is a play on words. In Japanese, his name means "Red Gem Life," while in Chinese, the name "rui" means "Sharp Intellect," which ties into Lelouch and his' tactical prowess.
  • Akarui's Teigu, Bahamut, is derived from various sources, and it's appearance from different media.
    • It's inactive form is based off of the Drag-Knight Sword-Drive form of the Divine Drag-Ride Bahamut, one of the most powerful Drag-Knight's in the series, if not the strongest in the series, "Undefeated Bahamut Chronicles."
    • It's active form is based off of Wizel the White Knight, from "White Knight Chronicles," only with a changed color scheme.
